Somatic Experiencing

Trauma healing through your body's own wisdom.

A gentle, body-based approach to healing trauma, stress, and overwhelm by learning to listen to your nervous system and build greater capacity for what you're experiencing.

Your body is constantly communicating with you. Somatic Experiencing™ offers a way to slow down and listen to sensations, impulses, emotions, and shifts in your nervous system, without needing to analyze or relive difficult experiences.

Your body is constantly communicating with you. Somatic Experiencing offers a way to listen.

Sessions are collaborative and conversational. I'll guide you in noticing your body's responses with curiosity, without forcing anything or asking you to relive what happened.

Over time, this can support you in:

  • feeling more grounded and present

  • recognizing your nervous system's patterns and signals

  • building capacity for difficult emotions and sensations

  • moving through stuck or incomplete responses

  • developing greater choice in how you respond to life's challenges

  • feeling more at home in your body

You don't need to know what you're feeling, have a specific story to tell, or know exactly what you need before you begin. We start wherever you are.

Somatic Experiencing for Pregnancy, Postpartum & Parenthood

Pregnancy, birth, and becoming a parent can bring enormous changes to your body, identity, relationships, and nervous system.

Somatic Experiencing can offer a space to process difficult or overwhelming experiences, including birth experiences, pregnancy or postpartum challenges, loss, anxiety, and the many transitions that come with becoming a parent.

You don't have to wait until something feels “traumatic enough” to seek support. Sometimes having a place to slow down and listen to yourself can be healing in itself.

This work may be supportive if you:

  • feel overwhelmed, anxious, shut down, or disconnected

  • notice your body reacting even when you intellectually understand that you're safe

  • are carrying the effects of a difficult or overwhelming experience

  • are navigating a major life transition

  • feel stuck in patterns you'd like to understand differently

  • want to explore trauma healing through a body-based approach

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to talk about my trauma?

No. You are never required to tell the whole story or revisit details that don't feel supportive. We can work with what's happening in your body right now.

Is Somatic Experiencing therapy?

Somatic Experiencing is a trauma-healing modality that works with the nervous system and embodied experience. It can complement psychotherapy, but it is not a replacement for mental health care when that level of care is needed.

Can we work with something that happened a long time ago?

Yes. Somatic Experiencing focuses on how an experience is continuing to live in your body and nervous system in the present, rather than requiring you to relive the past.

Can I do Somatic Experiencing virtually?

Yes. Somatic Experiencing can be practiced both in person and virtually.

How is Somatic Experiencing different from Somatic Bodywork?

Both are pathways for trauma healing and both center your body's experience.

Somatic Experiencing is primarily conversational and exploratory. We use awareness and nervous-system tracking to understand and work with your experience.

Somatic Bodywork incorporates gentle, supportive touch as another way of guiding the trauma-healing process through the body.

If you're unsure which feels right for you, we can talk about it together.
