Somatic Bodywork
A space to connect to you.
Trauma healing through gentle, supportive touch and embodied awareness.
As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I use Somatic Bodywork as another pathway into trauma healing. Bodywork allows us to work with your experience through the body and through supportive, responsive touch.
Our bodies carry the effects of what we've lived through. Sometimes healing begins not by talking about an experience, but by slowing down enough to notice what your body is communicating.
Somatic Bodywork incorporates gentle, supportive, and responsive touch alongside awareness of your present-moment experience. Together, we pay attention to sensations, breath, impulses, emotions, and shifts in your body. We meet your nervous system with non-judgement; without forcing, manipulating, or trying to make something change.
The goal isn't to fix your body or make something “release.”
Instead, we create the conditions for your body to feel supported enough to listen, respond, and move toward greater connection and integration.
Bodywork as trauma healing
Trauma lives not only in our stories, but in the ways our bodies have learned to respond to the world.
As an SEP, I bring the principles of Somatic Experiencing into my bodywork practice, using touch as a way to support awareness, regulation, and the processing of embodied experiences.
This might look like noticing a subtle shift in sensation, following an impulse to move, allowing a breath to deepen, or simply experiencing what it feels like to be supported.
There is no particular response you need to have. We follow your body's pace.
Somatic Bodywork for Pregnancy, Postpartum & Parenthood
Pregnancy, birth, and parenthood can profoundly change our relationship with our bodies.
Bodywork can offer a space to reconnect with a body that has changed, process embodied experiences from pregnancy or birth, and receive care during a time when so much of your energy may be going toward caring for someone else.
You don't need to be in crisis to receive this kind of support. Sometimes trauma healing looks like having a safe place to slow down, receive, and reconnect with yourself.
What might a session feel like?
You might notice:
a sense of grounding or settling
changes in breath or sensation
an impulse to move or shift
emotions arising naturally
greater awareness of your body
a sense of spaciousness, connection, or rest
Or you may simply experience stillness.
There is nowhere you need to get to. We listen together.
What Somatic Bodywork is — and isn't
Somatic Bodywork is not massage. The intention is not to manipulate muscles, release tension through force, or correct the body.
It is also not psychotherapy. Rather, it is a body-based trauma-healing practice informed by Somatic Experiencing.
Your consent and boundaries guide the entire session. You remain fully clothed, and we communicate throughout about what feels supportive.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I stay clothed?
Yes. You'll remain fully clothed throughout the session. Comfortable, non-restrictive clothing is ideal.
Is this massage?
No. While you'll be on a bodywork table and receiving touch, the intention is very different from massage. Touch is gentle, supportive, and responsive rather than focused on muscular manipulation.
What kind of touch do you use?
Touch may be still, sustained, supportive, or gently responsive. We may work with areas such as the head, shoulders, feet, or other parts of the body. We always work within your boundaries and with your consent. You are always in charge of your body and can change your mind at any point.
Is Somatic Bodywork appropriate during pregnancy or postpartum?
Somatic Bodywork can be highly supportive through pregnancy and postpartum. We'll talk about your individual circumstances and needs before beginning, and I may recommend consulting your healthcare provider when appropriate.
Still not sure which is right for you?
If you're drawn to talking, exploring, and understanding your nervous system, Somatic Experiencing may be a natural place to begin.
If you're craving supportive touch, slowing down, and experiencing trauma healing through your body, Somatic Bodywork may be the better fit.
And there doesn't have to be a perfect answer. If you're unsure, we can talk about what you're looking for and find a place to begin.
